Northwoods Sectionals 2009

CUT rolled in this weekend and did work. Though it was a bit chilly on the polo fields in Maple Plains, the weather was far nicer than years past as it hovered around 50, with mild winds and cloud cover.

2 pool play games Saturday, first against Minnesota Mankato, we were able to crush early and often 17-2. Next game brought us with St. Johns, and they got the only break on our O line of the ENTIRE weekend, but we finished that game 17-4. That brought us to quarters where we rolled right past St. Thomas 15-3.

Sunday pitted us against GOP to start in the semis, though we started slow trading early, after a timeout we fired it up and finished the game 15-4. (GOP went on to take 4th or 5th and make regionals, Syzygy won the section, and Eclipse was battling it out in the game to go when we left). In a stunning upset, Minnesota Duluth took down University of Minnesota in the semis on universe so we met UMD Northern Lights in the finals. After a bye to warm up and get some sandwiches and coffee in us, we came out ready to win efficiently and did just that taking them 15-5 not getting broken once.

Fantastic play all around with rookies playing often and amazingly. Still a few key injuries that are preventing us from being 100% but everyone is doing their best to heal up for regionals next weekend at Carleton
