Mar. 1, 2008Today's Carleton Relays were a big success. The snow was good, and many creative themed costumes brightened up the scene. Results are now available as a spreadsheet and PDF. Thanks to the many volunteers who came out to support the race, as well as to the skiers. Jan. 18, 2008The Crazy Carleton Classic Relays have been postponed until March 1, 2008. Jan. 16, 2008The Crazy Carleton Relays have been changed to skate, and may be postponed. See the race webpage for details. Jan. 12, 2008Last weekend's 24 Hours of Telemark was a great success. The Carleton team fielded 16 skiers and an alum, with the alum winning the 24 Hour Men's Solo race. Carleton teams were "Git Off My Lake", "Municipality of Awesome", "Poor Choice", "Skiers on Fuego", "Nordic Fury", "Backside Attack", and "Mark Dyson." Results are here. We also have a new Team Picture Chances are looking good for the Crazy Carleton Classic Relays happening next weekend. Keep thinking snow, as the course could use a little more fresh snow. Mar. 3, 2007Results for the Crazy Carleton Classic Relays are in (both spreadsheet and text). We had a good turnout of 13 skiers, and there was a lot of enthusiasm. The weather was amazing, and the snow conditions, while not groomed, were still very good. Thanks to Eric Nordland for timing, and to everyone who came out to make the event a success. Mar. 2, 2007The recent snowfall, though good for our snow totals, has meant that the people who usually groom the ski trails are occupied plowing out the campus. At this point, the chances of having groomed trails for the Crazy Carleton Classic Relays are slim. However, we are making an effort to kick in tracks the old-fashioned way. The race will still be held at the scheduled time. To quote a recent trail report: "The arb is incredibly soft at the moment. Deliciously so." Preparations for the race are in their final stage, and it looks like we will have a great event. Feb. 25, 2007Yesterday and today we have seen a snowfall of around 8 inches over a 1 inch layer of ice. It looks as though the Crazy Carleton Classic Relays will happen this coming Saturday (Mar. 3) at 3:00 pm. We have created a flyer/poster/thing (complete with map!) to complement the webpage. While it's still too early to tell if the race will happen, it is looking as though it will, and is likely to be classic. Of course, this will be re-evaluated later this week, and an update will be issued Wednesday evening. Jan. 29, 2007The Crazy Carleton Classic Relays were postponed due to regional (if not global) warming. They are currently scheduled for March 3rd, 2007 at 3:00 pm. Oct. 23, 2006The Crazy Carleton Classic Relays have been scheduled for January 13, 2007 at 2:00 pm. Please note that this is quite different from previous years. Mar. 13, 2006The Crazy Carleton Classic Relays are back on, at 5:00 tonight. Sorry for the short notice. Feb. 28, 2006The Crazy Carleton Classic Relays, scheduled for March 5, have been cancelled because we don't have any snow. In other news, the Birkie was amazing. We fielded 13 students and several alumni, all for the full Birkebeiner. That was the strongest showing from any of the MIAC teams, and I think may have come close to the U of M. Nice job. Speaking of alumni, we'd like to thank the alumni (and others!) who support the team by buying hats, and who are then identifiable at races because of them. Anyone feeling left out because they don't have a hat yet don't despair: we still have a few left. Feb. 22, 2006After a great race at Mora, and a chilling Book across the Bay, it's time for the Birkie! Given the current snow situation in Northfield, it could be the last skiing of the season. However, there's still time to get snow before the Crazy Carleton Relays. Think snow! Feb. 1, 2006The City of Lakes Loppet is on! Now's the time to email Mark and organize transportation and food and things. Current forecast puts it around 20 °F for the race. Jan. 11, 2006Results from 24T are now available, and they show a strong Carleton presence. Congratulations to everyone who came up with us, it was great. The snow was firm, though a little dry, and the classic tracks were blazing. As per tradition, the "schwagg" was plentiful, this year including two (or more!) hats. Once again, congratulations to everyone listed in the teams below, plus our fearless "wax technician," Megan. If you have (good) pictures for the website, please send them to me or put them on the network drive if you have access. Try to keep them small, though (under 1 MB). Think snow! Dec. 13, 2005Snow is now upon Minnesota, and in the next few days, Carleton is expected to pick up >13 cm. Beyond that, it has been cold for a while, with some snow already on the ground, and supposedly the weekend will be colder. Also, the Carleton 24T teams have been announced:
Think kick wax! Nov. 15, 2005* SNOW! *Nov. 14, 2005With some snow in the immediate forecast, it's time to think about finishing any registrations that aren't yet complete. This includes the City of Lakes Loppet registration, as the price is hiked at the end of the month. Good luck with exams, and try to get some skiing in over break. Think snow! Oct. 20, 2005With the recent cold weather, anyone who hasn't registered for races yet should do so quickly, because at the end of the month many of the races have price hikes. We'll probably have a meeting soon to discuss 24T registrations. We are currently thinking of having a 24 hr team (Andrew, Dave, Eric, Ian, Kellie, and Mark), and at least one 12 hr team (Bill, Elliot, Ellen, Hannah? Roxy?). Think snow! Sept. 18, 2005The first meeting of the season is tonight in Sayles (meet by the snack bar). There won't be a workout following it (as far as I know), so save that for tomorrow. Sept. 14, 2005Two quick items of news: The first is that practices (running, rollerskiing, etc.) start Monday afternoon (still awaiting details from Mark Dyson). The second is that the Crazy Carleton Classic Relays have been registered with Skinnyski for March 5th. See you at the activities fair! Sept. 9, 2005This page, having transferred maintainers in the spring, has come into existence. The old Nordic Ski page still exists, and a link to it is provided on the left. Some of the pages haven't yet been updated (namely the roster and the photos). However, the roster won't be updated until after the activities fair on Sept. 16th. I hope you enjoy the new site.
