Solos: Tainted Love, Take On Me

Post-Carleton Life: After Carleton I spent nine years in the advertising business, first in Minneapolis, then in New York. During that time, I worked on a variety of totally unglamorous products, ranging from Dog Chow to Lean Cuisine. During my seven years in New York, I also performed with a semi-pro women's a cappella group called 10fm, where I wrote my first songs and recorded an album. After leaving 10fm in 1999, I pursued solo cabaret performance, doing shows at New York clubs such as The Duplex and Danny's Skylight Room.
In 2002, I met my future husband through a close friend from 10fm. After dating him long-distance (New York to Boston) for a year, I made the decision to leave my advertising career and moved my life to Boston. I am now surviving my first year as a ninth grade English teacher in an urban high school, planning my wedding, and studying jazz performance, as well as helping to plan my Carleton ten-year reunion.
When I look back at the old photos from my time with the Accidentals, I really am struck by a strong feeling of nostalgia. I wouldn't want to do my last ten years in the "real world" all over again, but I sometimes think I'd relish just one more year at Carleton, knowing what I know now!

Words of Wisdom for Current and Future 'Dentals: Try your best to savor every moment. Your time at Carleton is so fleeting; there will never again be a time and place quite like this (good and bad). Even when you return to Carleton, years from now, there'll be strange new buildings and unfamiliar (and young-looking!) new students. Make the most of this wonderful four years and save the real world for later!
Oh! - and never try to do Enya a cappella. The Accidentals from 1992/1993 can just thank their lucky stars that the walls of Mudd Amphitheater can't talk!
