The group, 47 strong, prepares to leave from Sayles Saturday morning

Eating lunch in the wind outside Toby's on Hwy 35. Perry's chilly.

It's a bad sign if you have to be wearing fur while consuming PB&J

Seth and Theo preview the course: 6 miles across the Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior.

Sunset over Lake Superior, half an hour before the start of the race

The warming tent at the end of the race, before it filled with a thousand participants and volunteers.

For those wishing to remain outside, this bonfire was 20 feet in diameter and more than compensated for the northwoods chill.

Mmmm.... did we mention they had free chili?

Carleton Nordic skiers... those silly kids wore Spandex and not much else.
