Fall Intramural Tournament

Results of the Last IM Tournament

The Fall 2009 campus tournament took the form of a double-elimination event among 15 teams. It was played Sunday, Oct. 4, except for the finals, which was played Oct. 16 as part of an exhibition for Family Weekend. In that final game the undefeated team of juniors Andreas Stoehr and Austin Bell, senior John Mawhorter and sophomore Josiah Burns eked out an exciting 330-325 win over an all-frosh lineup of Charlie Rosenthal, Jacob Cohn, Joe Concannon, and Roy Wiggins.

The top 10 individuals ranked by "adjusted average" (raw tossup points per game multiplied by the quotient of actual team points per game over tournament average team points per game) in games played prior to the final, were:

1. Charlie Rosenthal '13 (149.6; 5 games)
2. Austin Bell '11 (125.5; 4 games)
3. Andreas Stoehr '11 (123.6; 4 games)
4. Frank Firke '12 (123.4; 5 games)
5. Tom Sullivan '12 (99.7; 3 games)
6. Joel Dalenberg '12 (90.7; 7 games)
7. Danny Wells '10 (71.8; 4 games)
8. Marc Boyce '11 (50.8; 5 games)
9. Jacob Cohn '13 (49.4; 5 games)
10. Chris Burke '10 (45.8; 3 games)

Following the tournament final, a best two out of three game exhibition was played between the four student all-stars from the tournament (Charlie, Austin, Andreas, and Frank) and a faculty/staff all-star team of Professors Mark Hansell and Jeff Ondich, Professor Emeritus Lauren Soth, and Assistant Technical Director/Lighting Designer in Theater and Dance Allison Koster. After the first seven tossups in Game 1 the Staff/Faculty team had a 200 point lead (235-35), but things can turn around in a hurry in quizbowl, and did: students came back to win that game 435-420, and then took the second, 560-270.
