About Us

The Rugcutters are Carleton's swing dance club. We welcome all styles of swing dancing, but primarily focus on Lindy Hop. We seek to perpetuate this fun and creative style of jazz partner dance and bring a slice of Lindy Hop subculture to campus. If you want to learn more about the origins of swing dance and the various styles of dance, check out the FAQ page.

We have open dance practice on Tuesdays from 9:30 - 11:00 pm in Cowling Dance Studio. Additionally, we sponsor several dances (both formal and informal) on campus, bring in professional instructors, and hold trips to go dancing in the Twin Cities, which has a lively swing dance scene.

Don't know how to dance? We have a weekly lesson on Tuesday nights from 9:00 - 9:30 pm in Cowling Dance Studio to get you started, followed by open dancing till 11 pm. For more in depth learning, we also offer a swing dance PE class every term, PE 177 Swing Dance. Finally, we bring in at least 2 professional instructors during the year for a free afternoon workshop.
