Tournament Format
The tournament is going to consist of a round robin followed by single elimination. There are 8 groups of 4 players each. Each player gets to play the other three players in their group. Two (2) people with the highest points advance to the 1/16th round. If there is a tie between a number of players in a group, their actual game scores will be used to determine who advances. This means that you have to report the actual score for each individual game you play. For example, if you won a match by 3-1 you report the actual scores, say, 11-8, 4-11, 11-6, 12-10.
Rules of play
- Each match will be best of 5 games and a game will be played to 11 points (not 21!)
- Each Player alternatively serves 2 points until the end of the game or the score reaches 10-10. At 10-10 (deuce) alternate serves EACH point until someone is ahead by 2 points in which case that person wins. If this is new to you and you get confused about whose serve it is, remember that the sum of the score has to be an even number when you switch serve from one person to another unless there is a deuce in which case you alternate serves after each point.
- NO SNEAKY SERVES! The ball must be visible to the opponent at times. Toss the ball up at least 6 inches and hit it as it falls- from BEHIND the end line and ABOVE the able.
- Don't touch the table with your free hand during play.
- Call a "LET", and play the point over, if both players cannot agree on a call or there is a disturbance during play (someone walks into the court, a stray ball rolls into the court, etc).
Reporting results
The scores for each game should be recorded and the winner should report the results to amankonf at carleton dot edu by the DUE DATE indicated in the attached document. Please make sure to indicate your opponent.
Where to play
There are a few places you can play on campus. You are encourages to use the Table Tennis Club's equipment in the Laird Stadium (2nd Floor). There are 5 tables which will be set up on Wednesdays from 4-6pm and on Saturdays from 1-3 or later. Email me for the key if you would like to use the equipment at other times. You may also play your game in Upper Sayles in which case you can have to check out rackets and balls from the Student activities office unless you have your own rackets and balls. A third option is to play in the Goodhue Super lounge. You are responsible for arranging with your partner to find a time that works for both of you. Both players will forfeit if I do not receive results by the deadline indicated in the attached document. The Semi-Finals and Finals will be played in Sayles Hill during 9th week.
